Effective decentralization and localization—including subnational governance systems that empower and encourage local leaders to promote inclusion and equity—form important preconditions for resilient, inclusive, sustainable, equitable and efficient development.
With this understanding in mind, in 2021 and 2022, the Local Public Sector Alliance took stock—on a region by region basis—of the state of decentralization and localization around the world. The final global region covered–in November 2022–was Eastern Europe and Central Asia. What is the state of decentralization and local development in Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ECA)?
As part of its global webinar series on Decentralization and Local Development around the World, the Local Public Sector Alliance—in collaboration with the World Bank Subnational Governance and Decentralization Global Solutions Group, UNDP, UNCDF, NALAS, and a number of other global partners—convened a series of four knowledge sharing events on Decentralization and Local Development in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ECA).
