Asia Regional Working Group Meeting – September 2026
LPSA’s Regional Working Group on Asia aims to bring together government officials, policy practitioners, scholars civil society organizations, and citizens who share an interest and expertise on decentralization, multilevel governance, intergovernmental relations, local governance and local development in Asia.
The upcoming knowledge-sharing meeting, “Restructuring Subnational Governance: Lessons from Vietnam for Asia,” will examine Vietnam’s ongoing restructuring of provincial and subnational governance, including the consolidation of its 63 provinces into 34. Drawing on perspectives from Vietnam and across Asia, the session will explore the rationale, expected impacts and emerging challenges of large-scale administrative reform, and consider how governments can strengthen service delivery and administrative efficiency while retaining local autonomy and responding to diverse local needs.
The keynote presentation will be followed by two reflections, one offering UNDP-PAPI citizen perspectives from Vietnam and the other examining the reform’s implications for Nepal and broader lessons for decentralization across Asia.
The upcoming LPSA Asia’s knowledge sharing meeting is scheduled to take place on 29 September, 2026 (6:00 AM NYC, 3:30 PM DEL, 5:00 PM JKT, 8:00 PM SYD). Registration for this meeting is required.
