Working Effectively in Multi-Level Governance Contexts

The World Bank: Public Administration Global Forum, May 28-29, 2024

In today’s complex and interconnected world, the need for effective governance and public administration spans across multiple levels — from local municipalities to global institutions. Recognizing this challenge, the World Bank is set to host the Public Administration Global Forum on Transforming Governments for a Livable Planet in Washington, D.C., from May 28th to 29th, 2024.

At this forum, the World Bank is bringing together a diverse group of world leaders, experts, and practitioners. You can join the forum’s discussions online.

One of the sessions of the forum is titled “Working Effectively in Multi-Level Governance Contexts.” Scheduled on the second day of the forum, this session will delve into the complexities and strategies of governance that involves multiple layers of authority and influence, from local to global scales.

The Forum Focus

Effective public administrations are central to realizing a world free of poverty on a livable planet. Faced with the growing demand for increasingly complex government services from citizens, coupled with mounting fiscal pressures and a widening trust-deficit between citizens and their public administrations, a paradigm shift in approaches to improving public administration performance is urgently needed.

Key sessions will cover topics such as restoring trust in public administrations, leveraging disruptive technologies, and adapting to climate change. Deep dive discussions on Day 1 include topics on improving institutional capabilities, strengthening resilience through public administration reforms, and conceptualizing new models for public health service delivery. Day 2 will feature sessions on addressing gender imbalances, sustainable wage-setting mechanisms, government analytics, public accountability, and private sector development.
