What are the roles and responsibilities of local actors in dealing with migration and forced displacement? How can local governments plan for migration flows and deliver inclusive services to host communities and refugees? How can local actors foster social cohesion between migrant populations and host communities?

In this course, you will:

  • Define the meaning of international (legal) migration frameworks for countries with large movements of refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons
  • Explore the roles and responsibilities of local, national, and international authorities and how they can cooperative effectively
  • Understand how to plan for basic services – such as housing, health care and education – in an inclusive manner
  • Identify strategies for integrating refugees and migrants in the labour market
  • Explore approaches to promote social cohesion between migrants, refugees, and host communities
  • Experience successful migration management practices at a local level in the Netherlands
