LPSA launches its Member Portal

The Local Public Sector Alliance has established an online Member Portal—localpublicsector.org— to allow its members to connect, engage, and share with each other. Becoming a member of the Local Public Sector Alliance—and access to the Member Portal—is free of charge.

There are several advantages to registering as a LPSA member, including—but not limited to—receiving our newsletter; registering for—and taking part in—working groups; being listed in our online member directory (if you wish); and access to online discussion forums on issues related to decentralization and localization. In addition, membership gives you access to LPSA Online Courses.

Transition information

If you joined the Local Public Sector Alliance before March 7, 2025, your original registration information was recorded via MailChimp. LPSA will be phasing out the use of MailChimp in the near future. As such, your registration information has been transferred to our new online membership portal. The LPSA Member Portal can be accessed through LPSA’s main website—Decentralization.net—by selecting Membership / Member Portal from the main menu.

Why did LPSA establish the Member Portal?

We established LPSA’s Member Portal and moved your account to the new portal to provide you with more and better member services and to give you greater control over your account information.

For instance, using the new Member Portal, LPSA members that have chosen to be included in the online directory—or members that have opted into working groups on the member portal—can now more easily communicate with each other. Membership of the Local Public Sector Alliance is—and will continue to be—free. This includes all features of the new Member Portal.

How about your privacy ?

The new portal has extensive privacy controls. Our privacy policy specifies how we collect, store, and use your personal information, in compliance with relevant laws, including the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Your membership information will be used by LPSA to communicate with you and to provide you with our electronic newsletter and announcements. Your membership information will also be used to provide you with the online services that you have chosen to use through the portal. The Local Public Sector Alliance will not share or sell our members’ information with anyone else, nor will we send our members mailings on behalf of other organizations.

See the Member Portal’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for further details.

Please note that if we moved your account to the new member portal, your account has been set to “Private Member” mode. In this mode, your membership information will not be included in the online member directory or shared with anyone, unless you specifically opt to do so (as described further below).

How do I login to the LPSA Member Portal for the first time?

In order to verify your account and protect your account information, you will have to confirm your email address before you access LPSA’s Member Portal for the first time. When existing members log into the new LPSA Member Portal for the first time, please reset your password—with the lost password option—while using the email address that you used when you first registered with us as a member. Your account will be accessible once you confirm receipt of the verification email sent by portal@localpublicsector.org.

How do I use the full benefits of the new member portal?

Once logged in, you will have access to the full range of member benefits that LPSA’s Member Portal has to offer. The User Manual provides a full overview of the services that can be accessed through the Member Portal.

For instance, by switching your profile settings from Private Member to Global Member, your member profile will be included in the online member directory, and a location pin will be included for you on our global Member Map. The LPSA Member Directory allows colleagues in the community of practice to contact you (without disclosing your email address), enabling others to learn from your experiences and expertise in decentralization and local governance.

The Member Portal also enables you to select what regional or thematic working groups you would like to receive updates from, and provides access to member-only Discussion Forums. Opting into working groups through the portal allows working group coordinators and other working group members to communicate with you directly through the portal.

The LPSA Member Portal will also give you access to your LPSA Member Certificate and LPSA’s online courses.

What happens if I do nothing?

Nothing bad will happen. You will continue to receive LPSA’s newsletters and announcements for the working groups for which you previously registered. Unfortunately, until you verify your account, you will not be able to access the member services available on the Member Portal.
