Local governance and local budget participation in Zimbabwe

In order for citizens to actively participate in local governance, they need to be aware of the basic roles and responsibilities of local governments, and citizens need to be made aware of the basic elements of the local budget process.

With this in mind, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works in Zimbabwe, the Municipal Development Partnership, and VNG International produced a video detailing the budgeting process for local authorities. The video transparently explains the key inputs and outputs of the budgeting process in order to empower citizens and other key stakeholders to actively participate in the budgeting process of their local authority.

The video was produced by the Local Authorities Capacity Enhancement Project II (LACEP 2), which ran from March 2018 to August 2021 and was funded by the delegation of the European Union to Zimbabwe. It was implemented in collaboration with Municipal Development Partnership, Urban Councils Association of Zimbabwe and the Association of Rural District Councils of Zimbabwe.
