Despite the considerable importance of the local public sector, previous efforts to collect data on the various aspects of decentralization and local governance have not given rise to a single authoritative data set on the governance or financing of the local public sector. In order to advance our understanding of the local public sector, in 2012, the Local Public Sector Initiative completed an initial set of metrics that captures the key aspects of the local public sector which allows us to compare information about the size and nature of the local public sector in countries around the world.

Detailed LPS Country Profiles were prepared for the countries below:

Bangladesh
Brazil
Cambodia
Indonesia
Mozambique
Nepal
Nigeria
Sierra Leone
South Africa
